DRY SKIN
½ of a small avocado
2 spoonfuls of plain yogurt
Blend these until smooth and apply a generous layer to the face. Be sure to avoid your eyes when applying. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and then rinse with cold water. Both ingredients are known to be super skin softeners.
OILY SKIN
1 eggwhite
1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
Beat the egg white until it becomes foamy and then stir in the lemon juice. Apply a thin layer on the face avoiding the eyes. You will soon feel the mask tightening your skin as it dries. Leave for up to 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water. Lemon juice is used in many astringents to wipe away excess oil on the skin while the egg white is a good medium to temporarily tighten pores.
NORMAL OR COMBINATION SKIN
½ small green papaya
2 tablespoons of aloe vera juice
1 tablespoon of honey
Blend these ingredients until smooth and apply a thin layer to the face avoiding the eyes. Leave for up to 15 minutes and rinse with cold water. The active enzymes in the green papaya promote exfoliation of old, dead skin cells. Aloe vera juice, considered the best natural healer by many professionals, will promote livelier, renewed skin. Besides being bacteriostatic, honey is a known skin softener. Many companies sell products of similar composition at $20 for 1.5 oz!
CLAY MASKS
water
clay
Choose a clay that suits your skin type. White clays such as kaolin should be used for sensitive skin types. Most spa therapists recommend this clay type. The darker clays (green or earth color) are used for normal to oily skin types. Red clay is generally not considered to be good. Mix the clay powder and water until the consistency is similar to a thick lotion. Apply a generous layer to the face avoiding the eyes. Leave until it dries and rinse with cold water.
