Filler Content: Palm Pilot Graffiti Quick Access

Graffiti Quick access
by Kathy Burns

Even if you've been using a Palm for some time, you likely don't have
all of the extra Graffiti characters and strokes memorized. New users
especially are sometimes intimidated by the Graffiti language and also
need to reference various characters at any given time. Palm provides a
quick "cheat sheet" built right in though, so you don't have to carry
the little cards around with you. You can cause the graffiti reference
sheet to "pop-up" on screen at any time, from anywhere within your Palm,
by using one simple stroke.

Start with your stylus at the bottom middle of the silkscreen, and drag
it all the way to the top middle of your Palm screen. This will cause
the Graffiti sheet to pop up above whatever you're doing, and you can
scroll through to access any character you need. You can even trace the
stroke on screen without interference in what you were writing
previously. Once you have found the stroke you need, tap the done button
and you're right back where you were, with all previous writing
preserved.

Bonus Tip! If you don't need pop-up Graffiti access, you can change this
function. Depending on how you configure your preferences, the "Pen
Drag" will toggle the backlight on and off, bring up the on screen
keyboard, Turn off and lock your Palm, or Beam Data. To change which
function occurs when you drag your pen up the screen, go to your Palm
Prefs, choose Buttons, Tap Pen... and choose your preferred action from
the drop down list.
