Jump Start Your Creativity - Shut Off Your Machine!

Life has a funny way of tapping us on the shoulder occasionally.
Recently I have been devoting fifteen to twenty hours per day to
my Internet Marketing business. The hours fly by, it still never
seems like work to me. It is my passion.

That being said, there comes a time to step back. Unfortunately
for those of us afflicted with this entrepreneurial bug, we cross
that invisible line hours (even days!) before we realize it.

Recently Raye and I had made plans to take a day trip to
Provincetown, a magical town at the tip of Cape Cod host to
wonderful food and fabulous beaches. We planned to go by
motorcycle, with no itinerary, save to ditch our watches and
enjoy ourselves.

Well, I was having a rough time meeting self imposed deadlines

on projects involving promotion of my online business. I thought
about asking Raye if we could postpone the excursion until the
following weekend.

I wrestled with the notion for several hours Friday night. I worked
until 3:00 AM Saturday, then caught several hours sleep. While
in the shower, I came to the conclusion that we'd better go. Life
is always better in our home when we strive for balance.

As it turns out, the day was perfect for riding. It doesn't get much
better than cruising along the Mid-Cape highway on a hot summer
day. Once in Provincetown, we went straight to our favorite beach,
Race Point, where we talked, walked, and slept away the afternoon.

It's so cool when your best friend happens to be your mate!

Then it was off to Spiritus for the world's best pizza. While

savoring our repast, I kept noticing a man sitting at a nearby table.
I had the feeling that I knew him from somewhere, but try as I might
I could not remember from where.

A woman sitting at a table between ours and the man with the
familiar face engaged him in conversation about his line of work.
When he said he had been with the Broadway production of "A
Chorus Line", I knew him instantly.

Twelve years earlier, on the occasion of my daughter's sixteenth
birthday, Heather and I went to New York City for the weekend
to celebrate "sweet sixteen" in style. We stayed at the Ritz,
shopped on Fifth Avenue and had tickets to "A Chorus Line".

We arrived at the theatre just as the curtain was about to go up.
An usher grabbed the tickets from my hand, glanced at the tickets,
gave me a startled look, and promptly showed us to our seats.

Front row-center. I had no clue, I had purchased the tickets over
the phone several months earlier.

The performance was the best I have ever experienced, bar none.
As the show climaxed with "Singular Sensation", we stood, we
clapped, we cheered, we cried. Memories of this weekend will
always fill my heart with joy.

As we filed out of the theatre, some of the cast members made
their way into the isles, mingling with family and friends. Then I
saw "Zack", he had been one of my favorites. I touched his arm
to gain his attention, and told him how much we enjoyed the show.

And here he was now, twelve years later, having pizza with friends.
I once again approached him, and told him of our previous encounter.
He was amazed, thrilled, and appreciative of my compliments.

He informed us that "A Chorus Line" had won every possible award
Broadway had to offer that fall of 1989, it was the best it had ever
been in one of the longest running stints in Broadway history.

As it turns out, he lives and works in Providence now, a half hour
drive from our home. He owns a Salon and Health Spa. Hey!, what
a perfect venue for my opportunity. This chance encounter that
allowed me to revisit one of my fondest memories, on what was
already a textbook day off, just might prove to be more productive
than a week at the keyboard.

So, when you get stuck, and you think that more hours at your
computer is the answer. Shut off your machine, go get a pizza,
you never know who you'll bump into!
