Top 10 Things I Hate About The Internet!

Top 10 Things I Hate About The Internet
Copyright 2001 Lynne Schlumpf
I might offend a few marketers out there with this list, but please
don't take it seriously! My opinion is just that...an opinion only...

1. Pop-up windows that try to grab you a little longer. Especially
the ones that won't let you close them. They just keep going and
going, like a certain bunny we all know.

2. HTML email newsletters (unsolicited) that show just how savvy
their publisher is by crapping on your email inbox with a javascript
error(with a loud, crashing noise)

3. Internet marketers who say they've been on the Internet for 10
years. Newsflash: The Net's really only been around commercially for
about 8 years. Perhaps you were on a different Internet in a
different time dimension from the rest of us?

4. Spammers who say, in their hurt little email voice, (after you've
asked them where they got your address from) that they got your
address from an opt-in list. Who opt'ed who? I think they hope we
forget what newsletters we're subscribed to. Their false hopes.

5. Internet marketers who write an article and tell you at the bottom
that you can get a free e-book by clicking HERE. After you download
the e-book, you find out it's something called "Spam-Free Zone" with
no redeeming value but a bunch of ads in it. This little jewel likes
to install itself like a virus so that every time you try to use
Winzip, it installs itself again! Extensive registry editing is the
only way you can get rid of it. Grrrr...

6. Internet marketers who say you can get a copy of their article to
publish in your ezine or on your website by sending a blank email to
an autoresponder. You send your email, only to receive an ad! I could
understand receiving their article AND an ad. But why destroy trust
right out of the starting gate?

7. Websites that contain wonderful Flash presentations that have
what "Web Sites That Suck", located here:

http://www.websitesthatsuck.com

call "Mystery Meat Navigation". You don't know where to click in the
first place, and when you finally do find a place to click, you're
afraid it's going to blow up or something!

8. Websites that try to be sneaky about what they're selling - so
much so that for the life of you, you can't figure out what it is
they REALLY ARE SELLING!

9. Free eBooks that have no apparent value to the reader WHATSOEVER.
They do not, in any way, attempt to give anything to the reader that
could better their life at all. They're nothing but ONE BIG AD. Can
you say: "Trust now, sell later?"

10. People who get "wind" of a project you're working on and proceed
to buy up every domain that even remotely sounds like it. When you
write to them to tell them you own the registered trademark for the
name, they get snotty with you and re-register the domain for two
more years! They don't even put a website out there. Just some
generic register.com thingie. Can you say WIPO?(World Intellectual
Property Organization) Can you say ICANN? (The Internet Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers) Can you say "lawsuit"?

Success to you!
