Even today’s seniors can be turned on to ringtones. Yes, the generation that gave us good ‘ole rock and roll is now entering their sunset years, but not acting like it at all! Aerosmith concerts, Rolling Stones paraphernalia, and the club scene keep these active oldsters going. They also happen to be loyal cell phone users, just the market that ringtone companies want to get.
One way that the ringtone industry is adjusting to get the booming group of baby boomers in their camp is by offering songs that they know and love from their youth. All of the tunes from the Beatles, the Allman Brothers, David Bowie, Foghat, and hundreds of other groups are now available. With one ring of the phone you may hear “Diamond Dogs” or “Love Me Tender” as much as you currently hear Mariah Carey’s latest hit or the Beyonce’s favorite tune. With big incomes, fat portfolios, and an eye for all things technochronic, the older set is a customer base who will spend, but only if the ringtone tunes match their desire.
Of course, not every ringtone provider is on the older tunes bandwagon yet. Soon, however, that will all be expected to change as the industry realizes that tens, perhaps hundreds of millions of dollars per month can be made off of those folks who danced on the disco floors when disco was in or attended Woodstock – the original, not the reunion – when it was held in 1969. If you are of this group, then you should know that ringtones from just about every group’s major album is now available to you. Rock on!
