There are plenty of people that feel called or led to lead a children's sunday college class or a children's ministry in their church. Regardless of the calling, this is quite an intimidating venture, particularly for those who have not undertaken a ministry of their own or a teaching position of any kind. For the individual that's ready to make sure preparations in advance, this does not have to be that serious an issue. Anybody can teach a kids's ministry, if she is willing to look forward a bit.
initially, make absolutely certain that you have the forbearance to deal with youngsters as well as a take-charge angle. Youngsters will take as much freedom as you permit them, and will completely disrupt your ministry if you don't lay down the law from the start. You do not have to be mean, but you do have to make it totally clear that you're the teacher/leader and that disruption won't be tolerated.
At the same time, you've got to make your ministry fun to be successful. Take into account the age range you are working with and use the general interests of that age group to plan your classes. Let's imagine that you are leading a kindergarten thru first grade ministry. Your target attendees will be youngsters between the ages of 5 and seven-years-old.
When teaching, you have to appeal to a child's interests while citing the subjects. One such material is coloring pages. If you are teaching on David and Goliath, simply produce a coloring page outlining the epic battle between David and the giant. While the children are coloring, explain to them what they are seeing and, in a basic format, teach them the lesson behind it. Obtaining teaching materials is a very simple process.
finally, always take a bit of time to pray before attempting to teach or guide children. Let the Lord be your guide when it comes to content, lessons, plans, and any other situation concerning your ministry of choice. Remember that we are God's hands, His mouth, and His personal guide for future generations.
the sort of ministry doesn't really matter all that much. At the very most, you'll spend maybe 1 or 2 hours a week preparing for your class, if that much.
