Understand this theory with a very simple example. Two persons are driving their cars to reach the same destination. Mr. A is looking straight while Mr. B is frequently looking backward as a habit. Who will reach the destination earlier? And your answer is: definitely Mr. A. Due to division of his attention to both sides Mr. B can't drive fast, thus, he will be left behind. Moreover he is always in danger of accidents because he is driving dangerously. He is also sure to get tired fast, and need more periods for rest. Mr. A’s speed to progress will be almost 5 times higher.

From this simple example a simple three point strategy to fast progress springs up:

1. Focus to the Destination

Mind of a person can produce energy at a supersonic speed when it is focused. Such persons always become genius in their respective fields. When you do not focus your energy it often diverts to many directions, consequently you lose power to proceed ahead fast. Can you kick a ball into the goal by looking backward? Hardly. One of the wisest persons on the earth Ralph Waldo Emerson said: “Concentration is the secret of strength.”

2. Bigger Jumps at the Right Time

Successful persons rarely move ahead at the same speed. When they see the road is clear they accelerate to the maximum safe speed, and similarly they slow down when the speed may be dangerous. This habit also keeps your mind as well as physique flexible. Such persons are able to reach their destination faster than others. Whenever there is an opportunity a wise person holds it tight and tries his best for a big jump in progress.

3. Time for New Ideas

When you look backward again and again you rarely have enough time or energy to think new ideas to make fast progress. You mostly get confused, sometimes depressed under the weight of past failures or pains. When you look straight you always have the liberty to all the means and methods to speed up. And the best part of your brain is always at work, thinking new ideas. You must keep in mind that every success story in this world has been written on the paper made of ideas.

Although you can learn from your past, yet you can’t look towards it again and again because this habit hampers your progress. It drags you back; leaving you exhausted most of the times. Almost all persons who do not make progress in life are addicted to this habit like they get addicted to alcohol or drugs.

So start the process of change today: move forward without looking backward.
