Not too long ago, the women of America were destined to work out of the household. Their job was to take care of the children while the man worked at a job. This has all changed in the last several decades. Women are moving into the workforce into positions of great authority and power.

They are able to do this because they earn a significant income because of a college education that they received. If you're a single mother and would like to move into the shoes of a more prominent position or career, here are a few ways that government grants for women can be used to your advantage.

Even though going to college can be the saving grace for most single women, getting to that point might seem almost impossible due to their circumstances. For many years, women have fought for equality and now the site is no different than before with one exception: they have the ability to command large amounts of money through scholarships and grants courtesy of the new administration.

What scares most people away from applying for grants is that the paperwork involved becomes a bit intimidating. For financial aid, many documents must be provided that show proof of income, debt, and all of the other financial data sheets that are necessary to complete the process for receiving financial help from the government or school.

Another consideration is how much it will cost to go back, how much they can afford, and the amount of money that will be allocated to them through the grant or scholarship program. The government grants available to most women are very generous but there is a secret to getting the most out of the scholarship or grant that you apply for.

Here it is:

The way that any student, this includes kids right out of high school or single moms with children, you need to have all of your paperwork in order. Most importantly, this financial information must detect you as someone that is in financial need. Without having a need, there is no reason for the federal government or any corporation or private individual to offer you a scholarship or free ride through college.

You must show that you deserve the $10,000 and is available through the Pell Grant. You must provide proof that you cannot afford to pay for your books, your tuition, or even live on campus if you're going to go to school. With out this need, you are going to be just like everyone else that is applying for this money.

To get on top of the pile, you must represent yourself ethically, and truthfully, as a person that really needs to have the money. Now if your parents are wealthy, there's nothing you can do about that. If you yourself have money, you probably don't need to receive financial aid. What you need to do, if getting the money is important to you, is to go after the right source of college funding.

For example, if you have a desire to earn a science degree, and your parents have money, but you're a single mom taking care of three children, your best bet would be to apply for the Pell Grant because of your family situation and to also apply for any scholarship related to the field of science. This way you're not putting all of your eggs in one basket and you are guaranteeing yourself some amount of cash to pay your way toward your college degree.

As an absolute last resort, go for a student loan. Take these only if you have to. More than likely you will qualify because all banks love to earn interest. And being a student, this in some way guarantees them that you will at some point begin to pay them after college is done. Your best bet, however, is to go for government grants for women, which you do not have to pay back.
