If you ever have the need to portray a psychic yourself, you need to ensure you put in 110% into it and go hell for leather. Whether or not it is for Halloween, a movie, a play, or just for fun, there's some essential garb and some mannerisms that you must use to be entertaining. Here's a list of must haves for your portrayal of the most popular supernatural profession, the psychic.
1. Candles - Having a table and a crystal ball as a part of your psychic setup is a given. What you need to don't forget to include are candles. This will help to set the scene in your area and will also give the face of the psychic a glow. Make sure that you don't have too many candles around, because you don't need it to be too bright, and also don't use any candles with overpowering scents. Unscented would be best, but anything with a subtle, mellow scent will do.
2. Clothing - The clothes you wear will be a particularly important part of the
psychic illusion. You need the people around you to really get into the moment, and the right garb will help that to occur. Make sure you are wearing dark colors, purple or scarlet being great decisions. If you are a male, a long beard with pointed mustache ends will look good. Also a turban with a jewel within could also add to the effect. If you are a girl, you must have a certain mysticism about you. Wear a cloak or a cape so that you can pull it in front of your face, making any watchers in the area worried and frightened. A scary psychic is always the most plausible.
3. Velvet - Darker colored velvets should be in your setup. The table-cloth, curtains, and anything more in the area would look much more convincing if they were velvet. That also makes anybody sitting for a reading more content by giving them something to touch, since velvet is always fun to feel.
4. Accent - A
psychic portrayed in media will always have some sort of accent. It feels more authentic when the person telling your future has come from a far away land, being trained in isolation so that someday they may tell people's's futures. This actually adds to the entire psychic experience.
These are some basics that your performance will certainly benefit from. Be certain to use them when you show your psychic abilities off to the world, but most significantly, have fun!
