How far are we prepared to go in the name of fashion? It often seems that we're prepared to forget about feeling comfortable, just as long as we believe that we are following the latest fashion trends. The popularity of high heel shoes suggests that many of us will put up with a bit of pain, as long as we're certain that we're looking good.
But is this always the best approach to take? There's plenty of evidence to suggest that thinking in this way can lead to real problems. It's a particular issue for young people and we know that childen should not be forced into uncomfortable shoes when they are still developing. It could cause them problems in terms of their development and may even lead to further concerns later in life.
This isn't to say that we shouldn't worry about shoes when we're older too. In fact, you might be surprised to learn how many health problems are actually associated with our feet. The most obvious issues that we associate with poor footwear are things like blisters and sores, but uncomfortable shoes can lead to more serious health problems.
Since our feet are critical to our balance, problems with footwear can soon have a wider impact. Such reasons explain why many of us have realised just how important it is to find shoes that will be comfortable. Yet plenty of people refuse to do so and are happy to stick with shoes that aren't doing their feet any good. Why should this be the case?
A key reason here is that society often seems to concentrate attention on how we all look. This is often deemed to have greater importance than how we're feeling. This is a real shame and certainly isn't a great thing to be teaching our kids.
People search for shoes that look good and tend to ignore what it will feel like to have to wear them on a daily basis. Part of the problem is that many of us associate comfortable shoes with looking rather drab. This needn't be the case and many designers have been looking to produce funky footwear that's all great for feet.
Look out for leading names like Fly Flots and Cosy Feet. It is possible to buy shoes that are right for your feet and look good too.
