Tennis betting provides one of the most consistent venues for finding high quality value bets among all sports in betting today. Due to the unpredictable nature of tennis, it is extremely challenging for bookies to faithfully determine odds that are favorable to the house, which means that it's very common for the savvy punter to find many great value bets to take advantage of. A punter who is well educated about the sport and is dedicated to studying trends and keeping up with current developments can reap huge dividends at the bookies. And the best part is that the season almost never ends, going ten months of the year. This provides an unmatched opportunity to take advantage of value bets on a very large scale.

As with any sport, there are a great number of factors that can influence the outcome of a tennis match. However, with tennis the factors involved can be more illusive than with other sports. To begin with, there are many different types of surfaces the sport is played on and each player has his or her own unique comfort level and overall effectiveness on a given surface. A great example of this can be illustrated by going back a few years to the numerous finals matches between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. For several years Federer routinely beat Nadal on every surface they played on, except for one; he simply could not beat Nadal on clay. In this situation you wouldn't simply say Federer is dominant over Nadal and blindly bet on Federer in every match, because you'd lose with Federer on clay every time.

Other important factors to consider carefully are the player's fitness level and any recent or historical tendencies for injury. If a player has a history of a certain type of injury, you'd be wise to look for any possible signs of that injury resurfacing. On the other hand if a player is coming back from an injury you'd want to be able to accurately evaluate whether they have gotten past it before betting on them. Since tennis is one of the only true individual sports, an injury means game over. There is no backup or second string to bail you out in the case of a significant injury during a match, so injury is a make or break for your bet.

There are several other factors that are not extremely obvious to the casual observer, hence the advice that you become an aficionado of the sport if you want to be successful betting on tennis. For example, take into consideration the fact that many of the top ranked players will frequently enter a tournament that means nothing to them, strictly for the opportunity to get in some practice before a major event. On the other hand you might have a number of unranked or low-ranked players in the same tournament who are fighting hard to win in order to break into the elite pack of front runners in the sport. With that dynamic in place it's easy to imagine that a no-name player could knock out a major star, and it happens all the time.

Lastly, but no less important than the other considerations we have touched on here, is the mental part of the game. Once again this is a common factor that is evaluated in all sports betting, but takes on a special significance in tennis because of the fact that there is no team to take up slack. If a player has a tendency to fold under pressure or has had recent problems on or off the court, these issues can greatly influence the outcome of a match. Sometimes it's just a matter of a certain player not matching up well against another because that other player has found a way to “get inside their head”.

You want to consider all of these things if you're going to be successful, but if you're focused value bets in tennis can be a serious money maker.
