Just because you've stumbled across a store that specializes in discount wakeboards, it doesn't make it a smart idea just to buy their least expensive option. Discount Wakeboards or not, there are a number of very important features you should pay close attention to before making a wakeboard purchase.

To begin with, is most certainly your safety. Both veterans and newcomers to wakeboarding must make safety a top priority. Not only should the wakeboard be suitable for your skill level, if you're a shopper of discount wakeboards the money that was saved by not buying new should be put towards the purchase of a wakeboard vest.

Speaking of safety, you need to make sure you know your level of skill. Beginner wakeboarders should be shopping for heavier boards with longer fins because they're more stable. Once the wakeboarder has had a chance to master some basic skills, they can start thinking about graduating to a lighter and shorter wakeboard. There's even the board's rocker to consider, which refers to how curved the board is. The easiest explanation is, long wide boards with high rockers are best for beginners. The sleeker types are really only suited to professionals. That there are so many boards for so many levels of boarders explains why wakeboarding is so expensive a sport to take up. Those new to the sport are likely to need at least two wakeboards in just the first year. That fact alone makes shopping for discount wakeboards a wise decision.

After you know what equipment you're going to be buying, new and discount wakeboards alike will probably need a new set of bindings. That's true even if you fit into the bindings already on the used board; or if the shop offers a set of free bindings, which are usually made cheaply and not terribly safe, the best bet is to get your own set. Each wakeboarder has a unique set of needs when it comes to comfort which is pretty important if you want to wakeboard for more than a few minutes without pain!

Finally, don't let your sole focus be price. Whether it's discount wakeboards you've got your eyes on or you want a brand new one, the board has to be able to carry your weight, that it can hold up to your skill and maybe most important of all, that you want to go out and use it the first chance you get!
