Planning a wedding can be a tricky enterprise. The reason is because while the ceremony is as simple as saying “I do,” there are still decorations, guest lists, the reception menu, seating, and a whole host of minor details that can become big problems if not dealt with properly. So what can a bride to make the process as stress free as possible? It ends up being a mixture of organization, teamwork, and a bit of luck. The first thing that a bride will have to accept that perfect or problem free is hard to achieve. The best thing is to prepare for potential problems and have an alternative ready when needed. Here are some simple steps to make your wedding a lot less stressful and the magical event that it is supposed to be.

Make sure to enlist a group of friends and family who can help with planning. The simple fact is that it is next to impossible for one person or even two to pull off everything involved with planning a wedding. Also don’t be afraid of hiring a professional if you are going for something intricate. Having help will reduce the likelihood that things will be left undone. Also try to take input from everyone but don’t be bullied into choices you are not happy with. This is your wedding so try to establish a sort of understanding on this point.

Make a list and look for methods that will make it easier to follow through on decisions and purchases. Making a list gives a concrete set of goals to complete and can help you see what still needs to be done. If a task or purchase needs special attention write down the name and number of the person or company dealing with it to make it easier to contact and check on progress. If you can have an immediate grasp of what is happening you can catch and correct mistakes before they become wedding day disasters.

Don’t try to go for the complicated when the simple is just as good. Sometimes you may have a certain idea of how you want your nuptials that may be difficult to execute. If you can find an easier way of achieving your idea use it. Highly detailed decorations and other ideas can not only be costly but create a potential problem. So avoid making things harder for yourself. A simple ceremony can have as much impact as big and intricate one.

Make a budget that seems realistic. You and your family only have so much in most cases to spend. Look at what is in your price range and plan your ceremony and reception on that. Also look for ways to keep costs low. It does not mean you are settling you are being smart. In the end using your imagination and ingenuity you can often get the same impact for less.

Have a backup plan where possible. Look for ways to be able to move on if the worst happens. If your dress gets ruined try to have another dress ready to replace it. If the exact item on the reception menu is available have an alternative dish ready to be served in its place. A back up should be a quick fix to a problem that will still allow the ceremony and reception to go smoothly.
