You can consider the best advice, create a wonderful business plan, make sound choices as you set up your business and still fail as an entrepreneur if you are missing four qualities – flexibility, focus, passion and ability to delegate.
Focus
More new businesses fail than succeed and one of the leading reasons is a lack of consistent focus on the business. You must commit to working on your business regularly. Often entrepreneurial types of people are very creative and come up with wonderful ideas and products but fail because they have a hard time with the day to day “doing” of it. Entrepreneurs who succeed are those who are able to bring their ideas into reality and keep the momentum of the business going.
Flexibility
You must be able to respond to new information and adapt to new methods
We can see many examples of formerly successful businesses out there who have not adapted over the years. If you aren’t able to take advantage of new methods of communicating, selling and marketing, you will limit your opportunities. This doesn’t mean that you have to have all those skills, but have the flexibility to be able to be open to new methods and find ways to incorporate them into what you are doing. Also be open to what your customers changing needs are and be flexible enough to change to meet them.
Passion
It truly helps when you love what you do. It takes a lot of energy and focus to create a successful small business. If you don’t love what you are doing, it will be much more difficult. We all have those moments when we ask ourselves “What have I gotten myself into?”, or “Is this worth it?” When you are doing what you love and you feel purposeful, it will be much easier to get through these moments.
Ability to Delegate
As an entrepreneur, you will rarely be successful unless you are able to step back and delegate tasks to others so you are able to focus on increasing your business. For most entrepreneurs, this is putting your focus on customer service and marketing.
