U.S. citizenship is a right given to a person who wants to become permanent loyalty to the United States. To become a U.S. citizen, a person can undergo a process called naturalization if he or she qualifies to do so.

The process by which people from foreign countries become U.S. citizens is called “naturalization”. There are three steps in this process:
1. File an application.
2. Take a naturalization examination.
3. Appear for a court hearing.

Naturalization gives a foreign national legal status as a new U.S. citizen. Naturalized American citizens have many rights, including the right to vote, to hold public office, to extend U.S. citizenship to their children, and to obtain visas for immediate relatives.

To apply for U.S. citizenship a person must live in United States as a permanent resident for at least 5 years and not spent more than a year outside the United States. The person must physically present in the United States for at least half of the last five years. The age limit must be at least 18 years. Good moral character and knowledge of the principles of the U.S. Constitution.


There are so many responsibilities that come with being a U.S citizen.
1) Citizens must support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States.
2) Citizens must swear allegiance to the United States, and agree to serve the nation when required.
