O2 is currently the UK’s leading mobile phone network, it has more mobile phone customers than all other networks, T-mobile, Orange, 3 and Vodafone, but being market leader doesn’t always ensure that a good service is offered. O2 have an extensive range of tariffs and phones but it hasn’t for a while now offered a good value for money tariff. In recently months it’s tariffs have been beaten by the likes of 3 and T-mobile.

O2 was previously owned by BT, the leading telecommunication company in the UK, but is now a stand alone business, which offers various services such as media messaging, text messaging, music, games, video with consummate data connections via GPRS, WLAN and 3G. They have been losing market share to the more aggressive networks, which have been offering consumers a best value for money option. So O2 have been forced to launch a new tariff called the O2 600, which is now O2’s leading tariff and one of the best value tariff in today’s market place. It is only beaten by one other tariff, the Flext, by T-mobile, which offers 600 mins and 600 texts per month. There are also several other benefits of using O2, which are; rollover minutes, free international traveller service, free voicemail, and the O2 long weekend service. Most of the tariffs come in two contract lengths, these are 12 months and 18 months, as with most networks and retailers O2 will add a free incentive to encourage you to sign-up for 18 months.

As well as monthly contracts O2 also offers sim-free handsets and pay monthly phones. Their range of phones is extensive, it includes: Nokia E60, the Nokia N91, the Motorola V3x, the Motorola V3i, the LG Chocolate Sony Ericsson W950i. They also offer several exclusive handsets, which are well equipped with the latest technology such as O2 XDA Atom, O2 XDA Neo and O2 XDA Stealth.

Due to the shear number of handsets and tariff options to choose from it is worthwhile doing extensive research on the Internet to ensure you are getting a good deal. There are many mobile phone retailers to choose from but it may also be beneficial to use of the many mobile phone price comparison engines. But it is recommend to choose your preferred handset first and this will limit the searching required.
