Research has shown that laughter is beneficial in many ways, including its ability to lower stress, depression, anxiety and even blood pressure. Laughing also is believed to promote healing and a heart-health through increased oxygen in the bloodstream. Considering all the benefits, and that it's fun to do, we should all be sure to laugh a little more often! If you still need more encouragement, it’s important to note that laughter can help to strengthen a relationship by promoting good times and providing unity during hardships.

Recently there was a study done that concluded that adults laugh, on average, only seventeeen times each day, yet children laugh more than ten times as much. Recapturing your childhood may not be feasible, but laughing a bit more certainly is. You'll feel younger, be more at ease, and that relaxed attitude can be contagious and spread to the people around you. If you need a few ideas, take note of the following ways to spark laughter in your relationship.

Maintaining friendships with others individually, but most importantly as a couple, is also key to keeping your relationship fun. When choosing your friends, make sure that they are humorous and enjoy having a good time. If possible, schedule a gathering with some of your funniest friends and laugh the night away.

Schedule a laugh break. Every day, spend time with your significant other in a way that invites humor. Whether it be watching a favorite sitcom on television, reading a book or visiting a comedy club, take this time to laugh with each other on a daily basis.

Laugh at yourself. A little playful (not mean, and not often) teasing back and forth is also an important part of any relationship. It helps each of you laugh at yourself once in a while. If you can't laugh at yourself then you're too serious and lose your sense of humor. Paradoxically, laughing at your own occasional sillyness actually shows you are self-confident and other people will instinctively respond to you more positively.

Observe life. Whether you get a pet, which can bring a great deal of laughter and enjoyment, or choose to notice the humorous events that occur to those around you on a daily basis, taking the time to watch and enjoy life will allow couples to laugh together and share in the funny moments that happen to occur along the way.

Be silly. Once in a while just get silly with your significant other for no reason. It could be tickling or making funny faces, but share some laughs together. Medically, laughter is believed to promote a healthier heart. Personally, it may lead to a happier one.
