We live in the age of social networking. Every computer-savvy person has heard, at least a hundred times, of popular social networking sites such as MySpace, Yahoo! 360, or Classmates, and almost everybody uses online messaging services. If you want to get noticed on MySpace you need to create an impressive MySpace profile. This means using good content and attention to the graphics that MySpace allows you display – in particular your own image and a variety of other icons such as love icons.

Every one of today’s applications uses icons. It is the easiest, simplest and most efficient way to create user-friendly interfaces. So, developers have come up with self-explanatory icons for their applications in order to catch the user’s attention. They reasoned that the more users love icons, the more they would use those particular applications.

But people came to love icons so much that they began to use them all over the place. Not only do computer users keep their computer desktop full of colorful dazzling icons, but websites, buttons used for navigation or instant messaging services are also very much reliant on various types of icons. MySpace profiles contain lots of these graphical icon representations, because they enhance aesthetics. Instant messaging users can customize their list of contacts by using “buddy icons” or “away icons”.

Buddy icons act as identities of the people under a contact list. Some people love icons representing their personal photos, others wish to display an artistic image, while others prefer arbitrary icons chosen to be unique. Away icons are intended to convey a message when you are unavailable, so you inform the others that you have “stepped out”, or you are “busy”, “away from the desk” or “on the phone”. These are default messages but everyone can create specific ones if they wish to let their friends know what they are exactly up to, like “I’m out to lunch”. After all, a MySpace profile is a place entirely dedicated to you; it represents you and expresses your thoughts, feeling, beliefs and ideas.

So, If you want that great noticeable MySpace profile, start looking for the best icons to use. Keep them simple and meaningful and in line with the overall theme of your profile. For instance, if you want a romantically themed site then make sure you use a love icon. (For starters do a Google search of “love icon”)

Icons are great tools for self-expression, especially in instant messaging, and they are used to represent emotions and identities. Emotion icons (generally known as emoticons) make it so much easy to express a feeling with a click of the mouse, than typing God knows how many words.

If you are a teenager and love MySpace, then you probably already love icons. And if you love icons, you will find iconisland.com simply irresistible. Be cool and have your own island (homepage) that you can access from any computer. Here, you can save your favorites and bookmark lists as… icons, of course. When you choose to create your homepage with icon links, it’s like having a desktop for web. So, show off to your friends. Start your own “love icon” mania and your friends will follow you. And if they don’t share your enthusiasm and they don’t love icons as much as you do, don’t worry. You can make new friends online, who love icons and choose to design their MySpace profile by means of icons.

There is no wonder why people love icons since these small elements are of prime importance in the understanding and quick identification of a concept or in displaying emotions during instant messaging. Without them we wouldn’t be able to express ourselves quickly in this day and age. So it’s quite impossible to imagine a Myspace profile without a love icon, a sad icon or smiley icon.
