Our dogs have been the source of many great times, much love, protection, and companionship. It is our job and they look to us to make sure that they are cared for, fed, and kept as healthy as we possibly can. The health and happiness of your dog is very important to you, therefore, we have provided you with the following information to help you understand different aspects of a dogs health and you can keep them protected from accidents and health related issues.

External Parasites
Dog Flea Control, Canine Flea Control

We've all had contact with them. Fleas and ticks. What you may not know is that they can pose a serious health risk to your dog and to you. Fleas have been known to carry a wide variety of other parasitic organisms, for example, tapeworms. They can also cause a host of other problems including anemia, hair loss, infections and allergic reactions. Ticks, next on our list, can carry a deadly disease known as Lyme disease. So be sure to check regularly for external parasites to keep your dog healthy and happy.


Internal Parasites

Internal parasites can create serious issues for your dog. In fact, internal parasites require testing done by a vet in order to locate them. They can cause serious health problems such as anemia, weight loss and other illnesses. These internal parasites are usually worms and include tape, whip, hook, heart and round worms. It's a good policy to keep your dog healthy and happy by checking for worms during their annual check up.

Dog Disease, Dog Illness

There are many diseases that can affect dogs, just as there are with humans. However, some breeds of dogs are more prone to certain diseases than others are. It is important to understand the disease risk of your specific dog breed and watch closely for any signs. Some diseases that effect dogs include:


Canine Distemper – This is a disease that is bacterial for the most part and will effect the nervous and organ system in the body. For the most part, this disease is fatal, if a dog does survive it will have some form of impairment, which is why vets require vaccination against the disease.

Rabies – This is generally transmitted from one animal to another via a bite from an infected animal. Rabies is almost always fatal and can be transmitted to humans, vaccination is required against rabies.

Other diseases to watch for include Kennel Cough, Leptospirosis, Canine Hepatitis, Canine Coronavirus, and Canine Parvovirus (Parvo). It is important to watch your dog for any signs of labored breathing, bloody stools, coughing, vomiting, fever, weakness, stiffness, nose or eye discharge, appetite loss, or diarrhea.



Keep Your Pets Vaccinated

A lot of diseases these days can be prevented through vaccinations. If you are starting out with a puppy, be sure to get their first shots done as soon as recommended and follow up as necessary to keep your dog happy and healthy.


Feed Your Dog Properly

Diet and Dog Food Nutrition is also important to keep your dog healthy and happy. Puppies and adult dogs have different requirements in order to maintain proper nutrition. Be sure you are buying the right food for proper nutrition.
