Folic acid reduces the risk of Alzheimer (Alternative Medicine)
A study in USA has shown that if you have folic acid with a high content of folic it reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s. A lecturer at the Food Engineering Division at Istanbul Technology University, Dr. Hikmet Boyacıoglu says in the USA they have been researching the relationship between an increase in consumption of folic acid and Alzheimer’s. This research, which has taken about 6 years, points out that Alzheimer’s is the most common type of early senility, and affects more than 13 million people worldwide which Boyacıoglu estimates costs the USA 81 million Euros and England 22 million Euros of direct and indirect costs for treatment.
Boyacıoglu says the research studied the links between Alzheimer sufferers given folic acid, vitamins B6 and B12, and found vitamins B6 and B12 had no affect.

Boyacıoglu says, “But if you increase the amount of folic acid in the diet, this was found to reduce the risk of Alzheimer by a great deal (a reduction of 50% alternative medicine).”
Boyacıoglu highlights that folic acid is a vitamin required for the production of DNA, red blood cells and amino acid metabolism, cell growth and renewal:
”Dark meats such as lungs, hearts, kidneys, vegetables with green leaves such as spinach, melons, artichokes, beetroot, broccoli, okra and dried pulses are all rich sources of folic acid.”
Lack of folic acid causes low blood pressure, weakness, cramps, depression, schizophrenia, heart problems and some kinds of cancer, because of the role it plays in producing DNA and cells, lack of folic acid during pregnancy may lead to disabled newborns.

Since 1989 the USA and Canada have been enriching cereals with folic acid.(Complementary and Alternative Medicine)
