Some of you have probably traveled to Jordan but many are getting ready to fly for the first time.
First, I want to talk about when you first book your tickets. Make sure you use an agency who
is licensed to sell tickets for Royal Jordanian Airlines. This can save you hundreds of dollars
per ticket. When you are dealing with an agency like this, they pretty much set their price. Each
agency is given a net price then they can mark it up as they like. To get better pricing try using an agency outside your area. The reason being is that these agencies’s want your business and will make very little to make you buy from them. This is especially the case in major cities.

Once your ticket is booked, you will need to reconfirm your tickets a few days before you fly out. This will guarantee your seat. Since most planes are overbooked in the summer months, this is very crucial. If you have a good travel agent then they will do this for you. It is always good to have a bilingual travel agent that speaks Arabic and English to help you out in case something goes wrong.

If you are flying from a smaller airport then they should check your bags all the way through. Make sure that your bags don't weigh more than 50 pounds. You are allowed two bags per ticketed passenger plus a carry on. If you booked your domestic tickets separate then you will have to pick up your bags. Once you arrive you should be greeted with very long lines. It is therefore good to arrive 3 hours prior to your flight.

When leaving, make sure you are not carrying more than $10,000 cash or checks. It is not against the law to carry more than $10,000 but you have to fill out a document that will go to the I.R.S. The sometimes will randomly stop people when boarding to question them about how much money you are carrying.

Make sure to have a valid passport. If you enter Jordan using a U.S. Passport you will have to pay 10 jd for a visa. Jordanians do not have to pay this fee and can go directly trough immigration. Those who enter using a U.S. passport that don't have a Jordanian passport will have to go to the police station every two weeks to renew their visa otherwise
you will have to pay 1 JD per day when departing Jordan.

Once you go through immigration you will go get your bags then proceed thru customs. There will be helpers there that can help you for a tip. Usually 2 to 3 JD is a good tip. You are allowed to purchase 2 cartons of cigarettes and 2 liters of alcohol from the duty free shops. Once outside you can take a taxi, the fare to Amman is usually in the range of 15 to 25jd, you can negotiate before.
