Have you ever tuned into the radio and just missed the name of the comedy act at your local club that everyone's been raving about, or found out your favourite singer was on tour only to discover tickets went on sale two weeks ago?
That's what happened to advertising identity Jack Singleton when he heard musical brothers Neil and Tim Finn were performing but couldn't find out where. This spurred him to develop Australia's first independent ticket search website, mytickets.com.au.
As a nation, we love to be entertained and a recent Newspoll commissioned by mytickets.com.au has confirmed many people have experienced the same problem as Jack. Aussie consumers are sick and tired of wasting time looking for information and are demanding that the search for tickets finally be on their terms.
According to these Newspoll findings, 65% of Australians have had difficulty finding information about an upcoming event and 53% have missed an event they would have gone to because they didn't know about it or couldn't find tickets.
As Jack Singleton recalls, "I was trying to find out where the Finn brothers were playing, and I just couldn't find the information I needed for the life of me, no matter where I looked. So I thought wouldn't it be great if there was one place where you could find all the information on tickets that you're looking for?"
Jack and co-founder, Christopher Plowman, believe that you shouldn't have to spend hours searching numerous websites, ringing phone numbers and flicking through newspapers just to find out who's selling a ticket to your favourite show.
51% of people surveyed said they have had to resort to searching multiple websites or making multiple phone calls just to find tickets. For example if you search on mytickets.com.au for Silverchair there are currently over eight ticketing vendors selling tickets at a range of prices. It's no surprise then that when polled, an overwhelming 97% of Australians thought a site such as mytickets.com.au was a good idea.
Mytickets.com.au has arrived to help you sort out your social life. It's the first website of its kind that puts consumers centre stage and the only site that gives people free access to information on thousands of ticketed events, regardless of who is selling the tickets.
Designed with ease in mind, mytickets.com.au is a simple to use, streamlined site that allows people to search for ticketed events by artist, venue and location. Intended to help you find tickets faster, mytickets.com.au also features a predictive text service, so you'll never misspell an artist's name again!
Other features include virtual maps which pinpoint venue locations on a scaleable interactive screen, SMS and email alerts which can be set up to notify you when an artist is touring and when tickets will go on sale, and 'Request It!' – a service that lets consumers demand artists play in their home city or state. Now that's consumer empowerment!
Christopher Plowman, CEO of mytickets.com.au, said he and Singleton created the website, because there was no one site that could allow consumers to take back control of their social lives and find tickets to their favourite shows, faster.
"For years just a few major players have supplied tickets online, accounting for only a portion of the tickets sold nationwide. Mytickets.com.au simply takes the pain out of the ticket search process," Plowman says.
"And because we have over 8000 events, we aren't just helping consumers find tickets to those large stadium events but also those smaller events people seem to miss out on because they never know about them – like local acts Toni Collette, Kate Ceberano or Carl Barron or even lifestyle events like home and car shows, festivals, networking events…you name the category we have it or will soon!" Singleton adds.
Plowman adds that catering to a heavily-online generation that demands instant gratification meant that the most obvious solution was to create one simple website that offers people access to information whenever they want it.
"The Newspoll Survey we commissioned confirmed that 77% of Australians go to the Internet first to find ticket information, but until now there hasn't been a dedicated site supplying all this information in one hit. It just made sense to create a site to help people find tickets faster and on mytickets.com.au there really is something for everyone," Plowman adds.
The website is currently in trial phase and is welcoming feedback from members of the public over the coming months.
When logging on to mytickets.com.au, take a few minutes to take a guided tour of the site, which shows just how easy and fast it is to find virtually any ticket online.
