Microsoft (MS) Dynamics Great Plains is a business accounting software package that operates on a MS SQL server. Part of the Microsoft Dynamics family, this product was initially created by Great Plains Software during the 1990s. In late 2000, Microsoft stated that it had purchased Great Plains Software, completing full acquisition in April 2001.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 was released in November 2005. Previous versions were named Microsoft Great Plains 7.5 and Microsoft Great Plains 8.0. Microsoft Dynamics GP training is offered by a few UK companies, whether you plan to use 9.0, new version 10.0 or earlier versions.

If you’re interested in buying Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0, you need to know that it is offered in two versions:

- Standard version

Up to 10 concurrent users and 500 payroll employees for each individual company.

- Professional version
Limitless users, supplementary user-level safety options, consolidation tools, automatic purchase order generation and more reporting/analysis alternatives. Additionally, the Professional Edition gives extra manufacturing and field service components.

Microsoft recently declared a modification to their licensing of Dynamics Great Plains called Business Ready Licensing (BRL). This new licensing arrangement only applies to new customers and is based on a per-user cost, replacing the previous cost per module licensing agreement.

Macro feature
MS Dynamics Great Plains was one of the primary accounting packages to offer record and play back macros. Macros are saved in .mac files in the Dexterity programming language. The .mac file includes commands to insert particular data into MS Dynamics Great Plains. For every set of data, a new .mac file needs to be created.
