This town is located in the Southern state of Kerala in South India . Situated at least 1,600 to 1,800 metres above sea level, the region is surrounded by vast jungles and remains wet and cold during most of the year. It is one of the most popular hill stations in India and is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. The hill station was also once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India . Sprawling tea plantations, picture book towns, winding lakes and trekking make Munnar a unique experience. Essentially a tea town, the tea plantation here has now been taken over by the Tata Tea Company and a visitor is treated with miles and miles of unending tea plantations. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here, is the Neelakurinji - a flower which bathes the hills in a blue colour once in twelve years. These little treats make this a delightful place to visit. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India – Anamudi, which towers over 2695 metres and is an ideal spot for campers who'd like to do some trekking. Mattupatti Dam is another beautiful scenic place to visit within the premised of Munnar. Another surprise, Munnar is sometimes referred to as the ‘Switzerland of India' for its natural surroundings and old world architecture. This is one splendid hill stations and is a perfect place for a weekend getaway or a family vacation.
