We all look at our own homes and wonder about making improvements but most of us have a restricted budget. Let's take a look at how you can improve the interior of your home without breaking the bank.

Property now seems to be about so much more than simply providing a place to live. Property professionals tell us that our homes can make a great investment and that we can really add to their value through home improvements and DIY.

In reality, the cost of home improvements can often make things difficult. Many of us cannot afford to fit a new kitchen or to have a conservatory built. There are, however, some improvements that we can make that do not cost thousands.

Let's begin by looking at a really simple element of home interiors: lighting. In fact, it's so simple and obvious yet it's an area that many of us neglect.

The way in which you light your home can make a massive difference. Harsh lighting can ruin the nicest of rooms. Having flexibility in your lighting provision can make a great difference to how others view your home.

It's worth thinking about how you light your home. Could you improve things? How about wall lights, floor-standing lamps or table-top lighting?

A good estate agent will point out that all such changes can add to the potential value of your home. A potential buyer who visits your home and feels that it has a warm, welcoming, relaxing atmosphere is likely to make a higher offer.

Now then - let's think about how tidy your home is. Are you a hoarder of belongings? If so, your property may well look cluttered. Maybe you don't notice just how cluttered it is - after all, you've probably got used to it.

Visitors to your home and potential buyers are bound to notice any clutter that you have laying around your property. Have a good tidy - clear some belongings out - you could be adding a lot to the price that a buyer will be prepared to pay for your property.

At the very least, you'll find that your house is a much nicer place to live in.

With these simple steps, as outlined above, you'll be adding value to your home without spending an enormous amount of money to achieve it. This is the true art to maximising the value of your home.
