The engine provides your Toyota will a lot of horsepower and torque, but in order to maintain such excellent performance, it must be protected from various harmful road elements as well. Moisture from snow and rain can cause corrosion in the engine, deteriorating its different components and shortening its service life. And aside from moisture, dust, mud, and other road debris can also reduce engine performance by clogging up the different components of the engine. And in order to avoid such things from happening, the Toyota vehicles come equipped with a hood to protect it from moisture and debris.

Although they seem to look like a simple sheet of metal over your car’s front end, the hood of your car can serve a variety of purposes. The hood can serve as another door for your car; whenever you want to take look at your engine, all you need to do is to pop open the hood. Another purpose of the hood, and probably its most important one, is that it serves as a protective covering to the engine and other car components under the hood. The hood consists of an inner and outer panel. The inner panel of the car hood provides strength as they contain braces that crisscross along the underbelly of your vehicle in order to make it strong and rigid. The inner panel can also be lined with a special sound absorbing material that dampens the noise of the engine. The outer panel on the other hand, is a rigid metal cover that protects the engine from rain and road debris. Steel is often used in car hoods for this purpose, though there are also aftermarket car hoods that are made of carbon fiber and fiberglass, which is lighter but has the same durability as steel. And aside from giving function and protection for your car, a car hood can also add a touch of style to your car. With it stylish design, a car hood can improve the look of your car or SUV. Car hoods can also be customized, and fitted with different hood accessories such as hood scoops that allow the hood to exhale and inhale air more efficiently. Usually made of steel or fiberglass, hood scoops are used to channel outside air directly to the air filter, giving added performance and efficiency. Hood scoops can also draw in cool air, which helps the engine from overheating and thus maintain it at optimum operating temperatures.

But because of its size, and the fact that they are located in the front end of your vehicle, the car hood is susceptible to scrapes and scratches, especially while driving. Small rocks and other flying debris can crash right into your hood and blast the surface paint. An in order to protect your Toyota from such factors, it is often recommended to install a Toyota Hood Protector into your car hood. Made of durable plastic, the Toyota Hood Protectors can effectively deflect of rocks and other flying debris, thus protecting the paint and surface of your hood. The Toyota Hood Protectors can also serve as a bug shield that protects your car hood from flying insects that collide onto your car whenever you drive.
