PROPERTY FOR SALE IN CYPRUS

One thing many people like about owning property in Cyprus is the fact that it is just that bit further for many as a Mediterranean destination, and therefore, it is thought, a little bit more exclusive, bringing a ‘different type’ it has been said, of person to Cyprus. With the central and western Mediterranean destinations being only a couple of hours from many more northern countries, the extra hour or two does put some people off, particularly younger families. However the millions of tourists every year, and the large ex-pat community prove that this is very much of the vibrant island it has always been.

Cyprus has for several thousand years been an entreport for goods destined for the western European countries, due to its proximity to the Levant and the ancient trade routes from the Middle and Far East. It has therefore always been a cosmopolitan island, welcoming traders and travellers, many of whom liked Cyprus so much they decided to stay. The times of the Crusades of the Middle Ages brought people from all over northern and western Europe, some of whom stayed and integrated into Cypriot society.

and interest in it ensures a strong market, and the island is likely to remain a popular place to retire, or to move to. The strong historical English connection with Cyprus makes it an easier place than some to either have a second home or to live in all year round. Seeped in history and with plenty to do if you are not on one of its many beaches, Cyprus is many people’s idea of the perfect Mediterranean island.

It’s not just the Brits who like it here. In common with the island’s history the visitors and ex-pats come from everywhere in Europe, and beyond, to this special island, both for its history and friendliness to ‘foreigners’, but also for the weather and Mediterranean culture. Inland villas and houses are becoming increasingly popular with new and long time residents, and the choice is large, as is the difference in price between the really great property and that which ‘needs a bit of work’.

With the increase in use of the internet and its ability to enable many people to work ‘out of the office’ a lot more people are now able to work from ‘home’ wherever that may be, and consequently a lot of people have decided that they far prefer to work on a Mediterranean island than in their own countries for all or much of the time. Cyprus is one of the favourites for this, and the islanders, both local and ex-pat are encouraged in the longer term by the entry into the EU a few years ago for the southern part of the island.

is likely to likely to continue to feature something for everyone. Of course it’s much easier nowadays in many ways. Using the internet will save many buyers a lot of time, whilst the choice is much greater using this medium, rather than trawling round all the local estate agents in every town. The ‘paperwork’ is also brought down to a minimum, making it easier for you to buy your own ‘villa in paradise’.
