If you add some of these tips to your daily routine, within one year you will have a healthier lifestyle!
* By eliminating just one tablespoon of fat per day you can lose 10 pounds in a year.
* Alcohol contains 100 to 150 calories per serving. Limit or eliminate your intake.
* Have fruit at least twice daily
* Perform aerobic exercises for a minimum of 30 minutes three times a week. Then gradually increase.
* Try not to weigh yourself any more than two times a week.
* Stop speed eating. Your food isn’t going anywhere try to make your meals last at least 20 minutes.
* The smaller the plate, the less food can fit on it.
* Bring your lunch to work at least three times a week. Store and restaurant prepared foods have much more fat and calories.
* Keep healthful snacks at home and at your work.
* Build muscle by strength training twice a week. It increases your metabolism and forces your body to use fat, instead of muscle, when cutting back on calories.
* Stop eating junk food while watching television. You are not paying attention to how much you are putting in your mouth when your mind is focused on something else. If you must eat while watching television, try some celery or carrot sticks, or munch on some nutritious cereal.
* Buy a good low-fat, low-calorie cookbook and try to make some healthy meals.
* Try two new reduced-calorie recipes a month.
* Be sure to eat breakfast daily.
* Don't read while eating. Again, doing something else while eating will cause you to not focus on how much you’re eating.
* Limit yourself to one sweet snack once a week.
* Instead of using ground beef try using ground turkey. You still need the protein in your meals; just find a leaner substitute.
* Do not go food shopping when you are hungry, and stick to your shopping list.
* Use herbs and spices in place of salt.
* Eat three servings of vegetables a day.
* Don’t eat when you get angry of stressed. Instead, take a walk outside.
* Ask how the food is prepared when ordering in a restaurant.
* Eat two dairy products a day. Low-fat or nonfat dairy products are your best choice to reduce your fat intake.
* In a restaurant ask for your dressings and sauces on the side.
* Increase your intake of fiber-- chose whole-grain breads, beans, cereals and wheat pasta products. Raw fruits and vegetables are also a good fiber source.
* Cook with, nonstick cooking spray or olive oil instead of vegetable oil
* Choose low-fat frozen yogurt or frozen juice bars instead of ice cream. Just check how much sugar is in a serving.
* Keep the junk foods out of sight in your home and
workplace.
* Always have your walking shoes, an exercise band or a jump rope with you when traveling.
* Avoid batter coating or breading. Grilled baked or broiled is the better way to go.
* When recipes call for one egg, use two egg whites instead.
* Eliminate or limit your butter intake.
* Learn to gracefully say "no" when someone offers you a second helping.
* If you must have pizza, choose a kind with vegetable toppings rather than high-fat meats, such as sausage and pepperoni.
* Don’t be mad at yourself if you slip in your diet. Just let it give you more determination to try harder.
