Directory submissions are now a popular method of getting link back to a website as well as more traffic. The primary reason behind all this is for a website to have its place in the search engines. Having a solid presence in the major search engines will lead to more visitors. These visitors will then be converted into customers and potential profits once they see that the website is providing all that they need. This is what directory submissions is all about.

There are basically 2 types of directory submission.

1. Dynamic Web Directory.

Dynamic web directories have the sole purpose of driving visitors into your website. They do not provide you with any help with regards to search engine positioning. This is because they do not allow direct links to your site.

2. Static Web Directory.

These directories are the opposite of dynamic web directories. These directories allow direct link back to your site. Not only they help you get more visitors, they also help you get the search engine position you want.

Free and paid directories are another option that people can choose from. Both of these types work. The only advantage that paid directory has over the free ones is that inclusion does not take as much time. Your website is instantaneously displayed on the top or first pages of the directory once the payment has been made.

On the other hand, free directories may take a while. You have to wait days or months before you can be sure of the status of your website. If you are on a limited budget and does not mind the waiting period, then this could work for you.

The directory you will be submitting to are comprised of different categories. It is important that you choose the exact category which is related to what your business is all about. Other considerations like the ranking of a specific directory should also be accounted for. Since you want to attain a good placement in the search engines, the page rank of the websites you are looking to are very much relevant.

Another important consideration is your placement in the directory. Keep in mind that readers do not have the patience to browse the entire pages of the directory. They tend to prioritize those websites that are found on the first few pages. Make sure that your site will be placed in a page where people will see them immediately.

These are the reasons why directory submissions are popular and why it is important to you and your business.
