After a long speculation, the manufacturer ultimately decided to launch the Sony Ericsson W880i. But whilst the expectations were high, the handset could not really accommodate the requirements of every users. Thereby narrowing down the target audience. As many observed, the Sony Ericsson W880i came through as more of a Mp3 player that can also be used for talking. And why is it called so? Because the device comes sans camera and other desired features, and seems like all the room was reserved for its Mp3 player. While this makes the handset an outstanding addition to the Walkman series, it also lets down many customers.

The main highlight of the Sony Ericsson W880i is its massive 4GB of internal memory. There is no memory card slot, but with such huge reservoir who would feel inadequate. The Walkman side of the phone comes with standard features, including the special TrackID. Furthermore, Sony Ericsson W950i makes song browsing a delight too. There is jog wheel on the sides of the device, that enables you to scroll down lists at twice the speed – Indeed a welcome change in a device that can hold up to 4000 tracks. The music player also supports album art which is displayed fully through the 262k colour screen.


A chief use of the handset apart from the Mp3 player is the 3G. Due to this web browsing becomes easy, fast and hassle free. The inclusion of the Opera 8.0 browser and the ability to download RSS feeds, makes the set more delightful. Business users are also given recognition here. The device has a Symbian operating system. The users can download new applications and avail the benefits of smartphone. There is also a handwriting recognition features, but this comes handy only when one's writing is crystal clear. Other features include Bluetooth, infrared, etc.

In terms of design, the Sony Ericsson W880i handset is pretty slim and comes in a fantastic size. The particulars being, 106 x 54 x 15 mm with 112g weight, along with 15mm thickness.
