Have you ever been in a situation where you heard or saw something new, the new, new thing? It sounded great and at the same time you wonder can this be true? It is natural to want to connect with ourselves and the freedom that is our birthright. Often we are willing to take something someone says as true and hope for the best. We then become the victims of the promises and claims of others that entrain us to "yes" for a weekend, only to return home to the same old issues and concerns.
The truth is there are lots of possibilities out there and lots of opportunities, particularly in the field of human potential and self growth. So how do you discern one that is right for you from one that isn't?
One of the best ways to know is to have a direct experience of the benefits of whatever you are considering or to speak with someone you know and trust who has had this experience and can provide some direction to you.
There is a saying attributed to Sai Baba:
TOO MUCH INFORMATION
NOT ENOUGH TRANSFORMATION!
This is so true of many of the experiences available to us as we seek the tools and processes that will provide us with the direct experiences supporting and contributing to our personal evolution.
Here are my top 10 ways of knowing and determining the perfect path for you.
1. Recognize that your life is a gift and journey unfolding in every moment. There is no destination, there is only the journey. Become a lifelong learner and by that I am not referring to a seminar, workshop junkie. What I am referring to is the commitment to be present in your life and notice what is going on around you and to learn from the experience of life.
2. Choose to recognize your Greatness! You have a unique and special gift or attribute that is yours and yours alone to share with the world. You are as important as every other person on this planet. Rich and famous or not. Make a decision today to focus on finding and unleashing the potential that is yours alone.
3. Be present to the inklings, intuitive hits, coincidences, and synchronicities of your life. When you look back later you will see how neatly you have connected these dots. For a great story on this click here.
4. If it sounds too good to be true, and your gut is telling you it is too good to be true, it probably is. Is the person offering this telling you that they have all the answers? That they are the one solution needed? That they are the creator of something? Someone like this is overly identified with their gig and the fruits of their creation. Remember the journey, no destination is in mind! It is not likely that you will release a lifetime of conditioning or negative programming in a weekend seminar or that you will gain the tools, understanding and mindset to become a millionaire in a weekend. What you may get is a beginning to your journey or disappointment once the adrenalin high has worn off.
5. Become very clear in the distinction of what you want to believe and what you know to be true. Truth is a funny thing and our egos will construct "fields of truth" which are the construct from which we operate and have nothing to do with the truth. Knowing is heart centered, belief in head centered. A side note for those who use kinesiology and other methods to navigate or obtain information. You will not get accurate results when you are in a field of truth! Ask yourself, what other possibilities could I consider and allow? This will often cause expansion or collapse of the field of truth you have constructed.
6. Recognize every experience as a gift that will take you to the next level. Even the worst situations can be a catalyst for incredible change and growth. Betrayal results from placing oneself in a circumstance that allows this energy to grow. Often the intuition will give warning and the ego dismisses this warning. The truth is, the betrayal is of the self to the self and could not occur without the environment we created to support it. Often when we get that we create all aspects of our lives with our thoughts, we can also choose a different thought which will now create a new experience.
7. Become aware of the fear that is living in you and has become the filter through which you guide your life. Fears set in when we are very young and have irrational interpretations attached to them holding them in place and keeping us in immobility. Our Rockit Coaching model is one that gets to the core of the fear and dismantles the states of being that have been enabled as a result of fear. Symptoms of fear based conditioning include and are certainly not limited to the following:
· Being externally referenced
· The habit of measuring our value by how our external environment is responding to us
· Comparing ourselves to others
· Being judgmental
· Lack of presence
· Being opinionated
· Needing to be right
· Being controlling
· Needing to be special
· Hyper-vigilance
· Overcompensations
· Resistance
· Lack of flow
· Feeling attached to something
· Taking something personally
· Justification
8. Become aware of the conditioning that is simply a choice due to modeling and is in the cultural, educational, societal databases of your life. Examples of these lie in the "shoulds" of our lives. When considering something with a should attached, ask yourself why this is important and if it does not make your heart sing consider dropping it off your "to do" list. As we say in coach speak: "Stop shoulding on yourself!"
9. Learn to use your body as a compass. It is possible to try experiences on before having them. Learn to use what you are sensing as a way to navigate through the opportunities of your life.
10. Recognize the perfection of every experience and element of your life. You created it this way and it is a fairly simple job to dis-create it when you recognize it is not for you. Cultivate the habit of asking yourself: "Why did I create this? How did I attract this?" Couple this inquiry with gratitude for what is and you will be well on your way to discerning those opportunities that are most perfect and aligned with who you are. You will know what you know!
