Changing Broadband Service Providers

There are so many broadband providers available now, and so many different packages to choose from.

Broadband gets faster, cheaper and more reliable all the time. The chances are that, if you have had your broadband service provider for a while, you may be paying more money than you need to. Most providers will not actively let existing customers know when new, faster and cheaper packages are available.

Until fairly recently, changing broadband providers could be a lot of hassle, new rules were implemented by Ofcom in February 2007 which made it a lot easier to change broadband provider.

Choosing your Broadband Provider

Here are some easy steps to take when changing broadband providers:

Choose your broadband provider by using an online comparison tool to:

Browse and Compare Broadband Deals

• Contact your existing Broadband Provider to request a MAC code

• Sign up to your new broadband service
(Give them your MAC code during the sign-up process; most broadband providers will let you do this as part of the online ordering process)

When changing broadband providers you will need to obtain a MAC code from your existing provider. Under new Ofcom rules, your existing broadband provider must supply you with a MAC code within 5 days.

A new provider you choose, will ask for a MAC code, and will approximately take 7-10 days to change.

It is also worth putting a note in your diary when your subscription is due for renewal or in 12 months time. The chances are prices may have fallen again or there may be a better package to suit your needs, and you may want to change broadband providers again.
