Yeast infections (also called candidiasis) are common throughout the world.
It is an infection of the skin, nails, mucous membranes, or intestines.
Yeast (candida), a fungus, is normally found in our bodies, but when the internal balance is disturbed it grows out of control and must be treated.
The organism frequently invades the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. It causes the infection known as thrush. Creamy-white patches form on the tongue and lining of the mouth, and spread to the palate, tonsils and throat.
If it is untreated, the organism is swallowed, and may infect the lungs or gastrointestinal tract. If the lungs are infected, mild bronchitis may develop.
Vaginal yeast infections are also common among women. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says that around 80% of women will be afflicted by vaginal yeast infection at least once during their lives.
Different factors can cause the yeast to over grow, stress for example. Also long term use of steroids or antibiotics.
Symptoms include:
Itching of the vagina
A thick white discharge
Pain or discomfort during intercourse
Soreness of the vulva or vagina
Painful urination
There are various ways for woman to prevent yeast infections.
Do not wear tight clothing like jeans
Do not wear wet clothing for long periods, especially bathing suites
Dry off well after swimming or bathing
Do not use scented toilet paper
It might be sometimes embarrassing to go for treatment, as it is of a very personal nature. Therefore many people use natural treatments to cure the disease, if it is not of a serious nature. However, even if a person decides to make use of natural treatments, it is better to first establish from a medical practitioner that it is really a yeast infection that occurred.
The positive aspect of natural treatment is that it eliminates side effects that over the counter medicine sometimes cause.
Here are a few natural remedies you could try:
Apply tea tree oil on the affected area
Put sliced garlic in a cheese cloth and apply on the affected area for about 15 minutes
Apply plain yogurt on the affected area to relieve itchiness.
Although many women are infected, there are also millions of men suffering from yeast infections.
They can be infected by women during sexual intercourse. Allergies can also be the cause of infections
The symptoms are
Itching of the penis forehead
Swelling of the foreskin
Uncircumcised men are more prone to infections.
