Websites are all made up of Web copy or content. That Web copy and content can help you to earn money on its own, or can help you earn more money than you're currently making online. If you want to start making money, you first should understand how web content and copy are different.
Web content - Web content by its nature either informs or entertains. Websites full of Web content will usually have articles, but may also contain videos, audio files and photos as well. Online businesses may use web content to attract potential customers to their site.
Web copy is the text that a site uses to get some type of response from the reader, or it may be to advertise a business. Copy may encourage readers to buy something, to sign up for something (such as an email newsletter), or even to click on a specific link on your website. The site's image is conveyed through copy, even the copy on the contact page, the about us page, and the contents pages.
So how do you use this Web content and copy to make money? Here's how that happens:
Web content- lots of sites use their content alone to make money. Content networks (such as About.com, owned by the New York Times Co.) are a large example, while there are many smaller niche websites making their money in a similar way. Web content uses its information to bring in readers to the site, and site owners than have to either have ads on the site or charge a fee for membership to the site. There are a few items to remember in order to make money with Web content:
1. Only use the best quality Web content possible. Quality content brings in more readers, is generally optimized well without a lot of SEO attention, and will then attract good backlinks to your site. This gives you better search engine ranking, which in turn brings you higher traffic counts and makes you more money.
2. Keep publishing the content. New Web content will bring in more readers, as they return again and again to see the new items. More web traffic means more money. While ideally you should publish Web content both regularly and frequently, even if you can only publish once per week or once per month, schedule updates as regularly as possible.
3. Use content that will bring readers. Use Overture or Wordtracker to find out what people are searching for. High-quality Web content doesn't have to be keyword stuffed to bring in readers- it should be content that appeals to readers. If there are readers spending a lot of time to find specific information they need, supplying that information will fill that need. The keywords being searched are just half of the story- also look at the number of results available and decide how well that market is already being filled.
Web copy - Websites using Web copy are usually trying to persuade the site's visitors to buy something, to come back again, or to perform some other specific action. E-book sellers use Web copy to sell their items, often using different colored fonts, lots of subheadings and testimonials to persuade the readers.
All web copy is persuasive copy, but not all has to have that level of hype. Order pages online always use persuasive techniques to sell the item, maybe a few more items at the same time, and to have the reader buy right then without further consideration. Every time you see a guarantee, for example, the idea is to get you to buy now, and think about it later.
Copywriting is a blend of words and psychology to get the desired outcome from the site's visitors. You can hire a copywriter to get professional copy for your site, or you can study copywriting and do it yourself, but however it happens, you need quality copy to persuade your visitors to buy and to make the most money possible from your site.
