Plenty of people promise that they have the secret to becoming a successful secret marketing. What they offer is a copy-writing trick, a special design of website, a ‘special’ e-mail to be sent out to your newly-built list.

None of these are the secret to becoming a success.

Think about it. Think of all the successful affiliate marketers out there. Do you think they all used the same copy-writing style? That they all designed the same website? That they all send out the same e-mails to their lists?

Of course they don’t. They each have their own individual style, and they’ve each become successful in different ways. They have different websites, different sales pitches, and the ‘secrets’ they offer you are all different as well.

The real secret to becoming a successful affiliate marketer is not one they’ll ever tell you, because it’s not one that makes them any money, and it doesn’t sound glamorous in the slightest. In fact, it’s more likely to put people off trying to become an affiliate marketer than trying to become one.

The secret? Hard work.

Plain and simple. If you want to become an affiliate marketer you’re going to have to be patient, determined, organised – and you’re going to have to work hard. You’re going to have to spend time fiddling with HTML in an effort to improve your website, writing articles and e-mails to try and catch attention, and constantly checking your traffic stats to try and work out which marketing strategies are working and which aren’t.

Along the way, you’re going to waste money. You’re going to waste it on e-books that tell you nothing you didn’t already know (despite what they promised), and you’re going to waste it on advertising campaigns that barely brought you a single hit.

Most people will give up. Most people won’t even get past the first hurdle! They’ll realise the amount of work they have ahead of them, and run straight back to their day jobs when the cheques don’t start pouring in immediately. They can buy all the e-books and all the ‘secrets’ they like. They will never make a living affiliate marketer, because they are the type of people who cannot force themselves to work hard, without a boss or any guarantee they will be rewarded.

Think about yourself. Can you work without any assurance that you’ll get a paycheque at the end of it? And can you keep working, keep improving yourself, and stay constantly aware of new developments that might let your competitors pull ahead of you?

Affiliate marketing is a competitive business. There’s no one secret that will make you a success, despite what the gurus claim.

But if you work hard, and don’t give up – then you have a better chance than most.
