The exterior lights assembly fitted on every Jeep provides more than just visibility. It is additionally composed of marker lights, a standard feature on every Jeep setup, which are designed to provide drivers with a communication tool typically used to inform nearby vehicles of the Jeep's condition and current direction. The Jeep park light is one of the more important marker lights in an exterior light assembly. Depending on its lens and bulb color, it emits light distinguishable from the headlight and taillight setups. It is usually placed under the bigger lamps of the assembly, and normally blinks to make itself distinct.

The Jeep park lights are used to signal to nearby drivers that the vehicle is going to a stop and which direction it will go. They are likewise used as turn signals or blinkers when the Jeep is about to make a turn or have its hazard lights on. While the Jeep park light is smaller than most lamps in the assembly, its availability in colors blue, orange, green, yellow, among others, adds to the visibility of the lamp. Park lights are especially helpful during poor weather conditions. They produce a bright signal that alerts drivers of the presence of another vehicle. Blinking Jeep park lights may also be utilized during medical emergencies to warn other drivers and traffic enforcers that the occupants of the vehicle are heading to the nearest hospital or medical facility. A convoy of vehicles also use the blinking “hazard” lights to signify that they are traveling in a group.

Periodic replacement of the bulbs may be a hassle but is a relatively cheap and quick process. An occasional check-up of the bulbs are needed in order to ensure that the vehicle is safely and properly illuminated with bright, easily distinguishable Jeep park lights. For the tuner crowd who wants to install makes other than the stock park lights of the Jeep, the locality's allowable color and brightness level must be checked first as some colors are not permitted on highways and can only be used as an accessory on the Jeep.
