Who would not like to be Big Brother? To become the all-seeing, powerful god of all? Well, probably not "controlling god of all" but being the all-seeing one would be simply as dominant, don't you believe so? That may be one basis why there are several issues with regards to utilizing hidden spy cameras, assault of privacy being one of them. Power is actually something that everyone abhors and, ironically, anyone likes. Spy cameras, while they are an advantage to a certain person, can be so damaging to the other. They can be a significant tool or something that will put you down.

There is this one circumstance involving a professor who utilized a hidden camera cloaked as a button to film naughty students in school. The students together with their families have filed cases against the mentioned professor for "abusing her authority" as well as taping the students without their permission. True, it was illegal for the professor to do such, yet if we look at it the other manner, we could see that what the teacher was practically doing was exposing these behavioral issues to the public so that they could be addressed accordingly. I'm somewhat sure that the Virginia Tech accident is still new on everyone's minds. Such behavioral propensities could have been noticed earlier and subsequently stopped the tragedy from happening. If a concealed spy cam is what it entails to avoid such tragic incidents, then I will not mind teachers recording their students at school in any way.

But then, there are also some who misuse the benefits of hidden video cameras. I will assume all are aware of matters of shocking actions caught on tape that are being utilized to blackmail a person. Or those that blatantly invades somebody's privacy as in putting covert cameras in areas wherein surveillance is not essential, like the restroom or personal quarters for purposes of personal gratification or lascivious intent. Stalking using spy video cameras is also another mode of misuse of this technology.

Nevertheless, there's one thing that shocks me. Some homeowners utilize nanny cameras to check their baby-sitters and house helpers while they are away. And these nannies are not attentive of the placement of the spy camera until they get caught performing some monkey business and dealt with about it. Still no one appears to be complaining. When they get caught abusing a child or doing something wrong, the issue of the nanny's claim to privacy is not raised. It's because the owners possess the authority to do whatever they like to protect the family and the nanny did something incorrect.

Hence, when is the use of hidden surveillance cameras right and when is it not? Seemingly, the thin red demarcation dividing them is much thinner than we thought. When the individual using the surveillance cam is in authority, its utilization is justified. But if selecting to use hidden spy cameras will make us more secured, then I am for it. Moreover, why will I worry about it when I am not doing anything that's against the law or is morally wrong? But as long as they keep well behind the line, it wouldn't be a concern.
