Hotel data lost? Is there a way to retrieve them?

The Grand Holiday Hotel is up-to-date with the latest technology. It has converted all its important papers and files with computer applications. These computers are placed in a secure room next to the kitchen. In order to access this room, you need to get an authorization.

After a busy night at the hotel, the employees were all very eager to leave. They were exhausted from the wedding party they had that night, and left in a hurry.

The next morning as the receptionist came in to start her morning shift. She saw water leaking from under the kitchen door. She opened the kitchen door only to find that the water had over flooded from the kitchen and has spread to the neighboring rooms.

In a state of panic she rushed into the room where the computers were. Unfortunately she was too late; the water had already reached the computer wires and cables, thus destroying all the computers in that room.

Before she reached the phone to inform the hotel owners about what has happened. The hotel manager walks into the computer room with a calm look on his face, in spite the state of chaos in that room. The receptionist shocked by the calm reaction, tries to re-emphasize to him the extent of the problem. But the manager maintains his calm state, and slowly explains to her why he is so calm.

He explains to her that a couple of days ago he had purchased a new backup software that backups files and folders on a daily basis on two different locations. The first being his office computer where the actual software was installed, and the second is another computer on the LAN where a mirror copy of the data is also backed up.

Then he went on by explaining that despite the fact that he the software was installed on one of the computers in that room. The mirror copy of the data was placed on the computer found in his office, and that the data found in the mirror copy is the latest version of the data uncompressed and unzipped thus it is available for immediate use.

Suddenly all the panic and the worry disappeared, the manager went to his office retrieved all the data from his computer and restored it onto the receptionist's computer. The receptionist went back to the reception counter and greeted the hotel guests per usual.
