I remembered one conversation I had with a friend and we were talking about the good old letter and post office for posting letters. It is the death of both, well at least that was our conclusion in our so-called modern age of internet and emails.

At first, I agreed with that statement, but then later I thought why not write a love letter to my dear friend in the old fashioned way and see what happens. I wrote a short love letter detailing our long friendship over the last two decades and said how appreciative I was of her dear friendship. I posted the letter at the local post office.

A few days later, I got a call from my dear friend. She was ecstatic and was so delighted I wrote her a letter the old fashioned way. She said it had made her day. She was feeling a little down that very morning and then she saw this letter. It was the most touching thing she had ever read and she said that she felt so wanted, so loved and so appreciated when she read it. She said she will keep this in her little precious scrap book. She couldn’t stop thanking me profusely for the letter.

I was, of course, very happy. Something which I had started out as an experiment turned out to become one precious thing I had done for a friend. I wrote with feeling and passion. I took the trouble to write on a piece of good old scented paper and then put my precious thoughts on paper. I wrote it in my ugly handwriting and I made someone’s day!

We met a few days after the phone conversation and I received the longest and most heartfelt hug from my friend. I was actually stunned. She told me that she was still thinking about the love letter I wrote. After the pleasantries, I brought up our conversation piece of the letter and post office. Well, as it turns out, our conclusion this time was very different. We concluded that good old-fashioned letters will be around for a long, long time to come, even in our electronic age. In fact, it will probably become a boutique way of communication. If one knows how to use it properly, it will solicit the highest and best response.

Love letters done using the traditional medium of paper and pen is still the best way to express one thoughts, passion and desires to another person. In our fast- moving world of emails and internet, the presentation of the love letter, the writing, the passion and most importantly the effort in putting it all together solicits the best, desired response. If it is done right, that one sheet of paper and accompanying envelope will become a treasure to the recipient. It will also become one of the most precious things between any two persons for many years to come.
