There's much talk in the news these days about global warming and protecting the environment. Many people may believe that the problem is so big that they they cannot be an agent of change. But in reality small changes can make a big difference and just changing your coffee can help the environment.

Most of the world's coffee is grown in developing countries and places that are remote. While coffee can command high prices at your favorite coffeehouse, the farmers who grow the coffee may have to sell their coffee beans at substantially low prices. This results in poor working conditions for the coffee workers and poor living conditions for their families.

Organizations such as TransFair and the Rainforest Alliance are working to change what happens to these workers, their families, and the environment. TransFair promotes the Fair Trade certification. Products with the Fair Trade certification have meet certain criteria such as farmers receiving a fair price for their coffee, farmers being able to keep their kids in school, and ensuring farmers use environmentally-friendly methods to produce a crop. The Rainforest Alliance works towards a similar goal to help farmers by helping them to grow great coffee beans without destroying the ecosystem.

So if you are looking to save the earth, look for products that are certified to be Fair Trade and/or Rainforest Alliance certified. Looking to save the earth in another way? You can adopt a rainforest. The Rainforest Alliance has a program that allows individuals, corporations, and organizations to donate funding to small conversation groups. To read more about the program visit Rainforest-Alliance.org.

Looking to buy coffee that's environmentally friendly? CheaperCoffee.biz sells coffee products such as Timothy's and Gloria Jean's coffee that are fair trade products and are also certified by the Rainforest Alliance.

It can feel good helping to protect the environment and you can enjoy yourself while doing it. Saving the world doesn't have to be a big event. It can be as simple as changing your coffee.
