Pay per click advertising can be one of the best ways to advertise affiliate products online. You can get your ad out on the internet within minutes, only pay when your ad is clicked on, be in complete control of your budget, and experience your first sales shortly after.
But there are others, typically beginners, who set up their first ppc campaigns, come back a day later, and turn white with panic.
They have racked up an enormous amount of clicks without one single sale.
Some people are lucky and only lose a few dollars, but others can lose as much as a couple hundred dollars in a single day by following the bad advice given by so many ppc "experts".
But what is this bad advice that can instantly empty your wallet? Choosing the wrong keywords.
Time and time again I see all these so-called experts telling new ppc advertisers that they can bid on "broad" and expensive keywords as long as they're making enough sales to cover their ad expense. But this is dangerous.
Sure, if you REALLY know what you're doing you can bid two dollars a click for a keyword like "make money online" and make a long list of tweaks to make it work.
But get one thing wrong and you're going to sink. Badly.
And this isn't even a good keyword. All you're going to do is attract people who are in the early stages of their research; people who will click and waste your money.
I call this keyword quicksand, and it swallows up new advertisers every day without warning. It is the primary reason why so many newcomers quit before they ever have a chance to succeed.
But did you know that there are many "specific" long-tail keywords that are not only inexpensive, but highly targeted keywords that will generate sales?
There are. And I use these specific keyword phrases exclusively for every one of my ppc campaigns. And you know what? I make more sales than I would using broad keywords that cost a fortune.
And the key to making your keyword phrases specific and targeted is to narrow them down. Look at this example:
make money - broad
make money ebay - more targeted
make money ebay dropshipping - targeted
This is just a quick example, but by using specific long-tail keywords like this, you can improve your ppc success dramatically.
There will always be people sinking in keyword quicksand, but you don't have to be one of them.
