Catchy title, huh? Well…they are. Look at it this way: Televisions of the past were tubes that picked up UHF and VHF receptions, right? Then, there was the expansion to cablevision and the lovely C-Band satellites. A revolutionary step in television's history. Fast-forward to today, there are SO many ways to obtain the programming that you want to see.
First, you have plain cablevision which, by the way, is soon going completely digital in signal (digital=computer driven). This is a fine way to obtain service…for a fee, a recurring fee. Cablevision has a great picture, some Hi-Def channels, Video On Demand, DVR service, all kinds of killer options, but, once again, the service is paid for (per box, too).
Another television entertainment option is the similar to the digital cablevision. Satellite systems are rampant as well. Like cablevision, it's another world of benefits. A couple of options the satellite systems carry inclusively are the sports packages, extended channels, and a few networks from select areas of the world. These are great options…for their fee.
Enter the convenience that computers have driven the human race to: Internet TV. Want to learn about a culture straight through their own networks? This is the place. This is also the place to watch around 9,000 different channels that are shot out into the satellites (by these computers that are taking over the world…hehe) orbiting the Earth we live on. Amazing. Data transfer rates amongst these computers have gotten so fast that one can become roadkill on the Information Superhighway. Cable channels become a click away where anyone with forty bucks and a PC with a broadband or wireless connection can watch all these channels that are out there. I'm waiting for Scotty to beam me up next!
Needless to say, in this technological age, I succomb to the almighty computer. We've developed a relationship like no other. But that doesn't mean that I won't be watching it...
