Cars are a must to college students. Those who have not received their cars from their parents during high school would definitely grab the opportunity in their college years to have one.
Many college students have cars which they drive from home to school to their favorite hangouts. Regular maintenance and service performed back at home or at a reliable repair facility near the campus will keep those Volvo 850 parts dependable.
For some collegians, a vehicle is basically just a mode of transportation while others use their car more frequently for bonding with friends going to the mall or even off-road. Either way, lack of maintenance can cause inconvenience, not being safe, and breakdowns.
According to Car Care, vehicles that are used most of the time are prone to battery failures, moisture accumulating in gasoline lines, and poor engine performance. These are for the reason that those used for frequent, short trips to and from campus have little chance to warm up thoroughly and can cause premature exhaust system failure and excessive engine deposits that can extremely affect engine performance.
Car Care Council has a new guide on what students and parents can do to maintain their vehicle for safety, dependability, and value. They can have this through logging on at the council's Web site at www.carcare.org.
The council claims that the guide can be stored easily in a vehicle's glove box. It explains the most common preventative maintenance procedures and repairs that need to be performed in order to help keep vehicles operating safely and reliably. It also has a list of questions to ask when these maintenance or repair procedures are being performed at a repair shop.
A Car Care Checklist is also included to remind busy students what vehicle systems need to be maintained and when service or repair should be done. To further familiarize students with their vehicles, the guide has clear, concise descriptions of 12 major vehicle systems and components such as steering and suspension, fuel and air intake, belts and hoses, and more.
Even students who usually depend on their fathers or older relatives for car care between semesters or during the summer months will benefit from the guide by learning about the vehicle's warning systems, service lights, and different symptoms before a breakdown occurs.
The Car Care Council is the online source of information for the "Be Car Care Aware" consumer-education campaign. It promotes the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair to consumers.
