Klose snatches the cup for Bayern Munich with his goal

Bayern Munich lifted the cup on Saturday after Miroslav Klose, of 29 years of age, scored his first goal for the team and guided them to their 1-0 victory over Schalke in the pre-season League Cup final in Leipzig.

Klose, who formerly played for Werder Bremen, was transferred to Bayern on June 28, 2007 for a fee of €15 million and signed a four year contract with the club. He was able to capture his first title win for the team when he scored in the 29th minute after Manuel Neuer, goalkeeper for Schalke, fell on the field. Klose and other teammates also benefited from many defensive flaws made by their opponents.

This is Bayern’s sixth League Cup in their 11 season history and they profited an estimated amount of €2 million. The last time the club won the cup was in 2004 when they beat Werder Bremen. Bayern has struggled for nearly four seasons and is lacking important players such as France midfielder Franck Ribery, who joined Bayern in a Bundesliga record $34 million transfer in the close season and has scored three goals in his first two matches for Bayern.

However, they were still able to win the six-team tournament that consists of the top four clubs in the last seasons Bundesliga and German Cup winners Nuremberg and second division champions Karlsruhe. This victory, along with the signing of excellent players like Klose, will surely give them a positive attitude and help them for the upcoming season.
