The most precious cargo that drivers can carry in their cars are children. But statistics have shown that the careless use of child restraint systems have caused injuries for thousands of children on the road every year in California. Despite the fact that there are some injuries as a result of California car seat law violations, advocates in this respect have claimed that most of these injuries happen as a result of the incapacity of the California car seat law.

According to California car seat law:

There must be a security for children in an appropriate child passenger restraint system, as long as they are under 6 years old, or have a weight less than 60 pounds.

Children that are less than 1 year old, or 20 pounds and less weight must be properly seated in a rear-facing restraint system. If the bag of the front passenger is active , the system must be in a rear seat, or else, this restraint system must be put in the front passenger seat.

However, it is stated that children above 6 years, and weighing 60 pounds and above can use a standard adult safety seat belt. But advocated complains that children are too little for adult safety seat belt.

Demonstration have shown on the California Highway Patrol`s website, that safety seat belts for adult can really be very dangerous to kids, in that is passes directly across the neck of children, rather than across the center of the shoulder, and this can cause an injury that is serious, or that can lead to death for children.

The intervention of California auto insurance companies in case of an accident is usually minimal.

What should parents should do?

Advocates have advised that Californians with auto insurance abide by one of these guides:

The National Highway Safety Administration (NHSA) advises that a child weighing over 40 pounds should use a belt-position booster seat, as long as they are less than 8 years old, or less than 4.9 inches tall.

When children resist this belt-position booster, professional advise the following;

Dont refer to the seat as a “baby seat,or car seat”, rather, it should be referred to as safety seat, booster seat, or big kid seat.

Also, California auto insurance companies have also tried to give safety rules for carrying childrens. Parents also should make some discussions about the use of these safety tips for them.
