It is a grave misconception that an anger management class would only benefit men. Although men continue to be the more aggressive of the sexes, women are no less angry. In fact about 40% of my clients are single women struggling with emotions of loneliness and bitterness, married women who have been angered by their husband infidelity and mothers who hold the weight of the world upon their shoulders.
It is the subject of motherhood that I would like to address in this post. The amount of stress an individual encounters in their lives has a direct correlation to how they manage their anger. It goes without question that mothers these days are under great amounts of stress. In many cases women are now required to be a co-participant our the only participant in earning wages for the family. The high cost of housing and other staple goods require many couples to work full time. Although many women have entered the work force the care for their children and their home continue to fall on their shoulders.
Mothers act as chouffers, cooks, maids, nurses, life coaches, teachers, and seductresses. In addition to their work at home and on the job many women are forced to become caretakers of their elderly parents.
It is necessary for mothers to find time to carve for themselves. The stress of various demands can often cause physical and mental health issues. All too often mother can become resentful and angry because of their various responsibilities.
As a mother your first priority must be yourself. If you are unable to function, those who depend on you may suffer.
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to identify and express a wide range of emotions. Women are often more sensitive to emotions than men consequently they may have a habit of absorbing the pain of others. If so you must have avenues in place in which you are able to vent (not complain). You must become a stream for emotions and not a reservoir.
Effective communication gives us the ability to express painful and angry emotions. Many women are excellent communicators and can use this skill to express their feelings and concerns to those willing to listen. An anger management class is an effective venue for mother who are experiencing stress and frustration.
