The Saturn windshield wiper blade is the first line of defense against rough driving conditions. If one can't see clearly when driving, accidents are most likely to happen. The Saturn windshield wiper is a thin strip of rubbery material attached to an assembly that holds the strip against the windshield. The windshield wiper squeegees water, snow, dirt, bugs, and the like off the windshield to clear up the forward line of vision.

Although they receive a great deal of abuse during harsh weather conditions, Saturn wiper blades receive their greatest abuse while sitting idle under hot sun. UV rays that make can cook the flexibility and usefulness out of the material the wiper blades are made of. Other reasons for the wearing out of wiper blades include dust, sand, exposure to elements and contaminants, heavy usage, car wax and no preventive maintenance.

There are various indications for worn-out Saturn wipers blades. These include streaks, smears, unwiped areas on the windshield; chattering, skipping wiper blades; nicked, cracked or separated rubber elements; noisy wiping action due to worn-out wiper blade joints. These defects could result to reduce visibility and slowed reaction time that could lead to road accidents.

The first and often least expensive option in upgrading the windshield wipers is a fresh set of wiper refills. The wiper refill is simply a replacement for the strip of rubber that meets the windshield. However, it should also be noted that finding the correct windshield wiper blade refill, removing the old wiper blade and trying to slide in the new wiper blade is way more difficult than replacing the entire windshield wiper blade. There is also the risk of improper installation, which may allow the windshield wiper blade arm to scratch the glass causing permanent damage to the window. As a safety precaution, a Saturn wiper blade should be replaced at the first sign of wear. Ideally, a Saturn windshield wiper blade should be replaced every six months to a year. Many vehicle owners replace their wiper blade in the fall to prepare for winter driving conditions, and again in the spring to be ready for the rainy season and sudden thunderstorms.
