Manchester Captures the Community Shield Cup

As a revenge for the FA Cup final, the Community Shield Cup played last Sunday at Wembley starring Edwin Van Der Sar as the celebrity; the goalkeeper saved three penalties in a row to give the Manchester City a victory 3-0 above Chelsea. It was their first triumph since 2003 when they also conquered the title on penalties.

Ryan Giggs had given United a first half lead in the annual friendly game, but Florent Malouda appeared to stable the score and after the halftime the face to face battle got intense so neither side gave a chance to the opponent.

The possession of the ball was very similar for both squads during the 90 minutes; even with an “incomplete” Chelsea missing many of its starts including its captain John Terry. Unfortunately for the Chelsea the winner of the day was decided by shootouts and the German goalkeeper had an amazing day while Petr Cech on the Chelsea’s side failed to get any of the United shots from Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney.

The Community Shield also called the Charity Shield is joined by the winners of the FA Cup and the Premier League and is the shutter of the English Soccer Premier League Season. The event’s objective is to collect funds for community groups and charities as well as mark the start of a new season, which apparently will be impregnate of rivalry between these two teams.
