Lack of awareness is the primary reason behind the unclaimed money crisis in Florida

It is a proved fact that the State of Florida is holding two billion dollars that is actually owed to eight million people all over the country. The money, which is being held by Florida Department of Financial Services is just lying there because the owners of the money have forgotten its existence.

The problem of unclaimed cash is not restricted to Florida alone. The problem extends to all the states in the country. The advertisements released to spread awareness are not effective.

For every one two dollars of unclaimed cash returned, there is an increase of one dollar of unclaimed cash. While 171 million dollars was returned, more than 70 million dollars was added to the unclaimed cash kitty in 2006.

Do not form any conclusions simply on the basis of the amount of unclaimed money being returned to its original owners. On an average, $271 million dollars is being added to FL unclaimed money kitty. Virtually no progress is being made to solve the problem.

Simply put, the total sum of unclaimed money is growing at about $100 million dollars per year.

You can do your bit by choosing a good quality database and searching for unclaimed money. If the database covers state as well as federal records, it is a good quality database. Search for all records against your name and against your aliases.

The irony is that just a few seconds of effort is all it takes to get back unclaimed money. Millions and millions can get their money back by simply visiting www.cashunclaimed.com and searching the comprehensive unclaimed money database. Bill McIntosh, the founder of the database attributes the rise in unclaimed money in Florida to the lack of awareness amongst the people living there. Rise in awareness will result in a decrease in the seriousness of the problem.

Do not forget to include your immediate family members in your search for unclaimed money. Notify them if money is owed to them so that they can take action to recover the money.

Just file a standard claim along with proof of identification and proof of entitlement to the unclaimed property, if required. Your license and/or birth certificate is sufficient to prove your identity while wills and other such documents are sufficient to prove your entitlement.
