According to today’s trend, mobile phones are seen as a tool of most frequent use. Because of its usefulness and also for its various specifications, mobile phones are adorable to individuals at different ages. Now, as we understand, that the using of mobile phones by the elderly populations needs an extra attention, however, the research to develop the same for particular purpose is still in its infancy.

Essential Features

This seems undoubtedly very frustrating sometimes to teach the elderly about different features available in the mobile phone. It is either of the visibility of different features or it may be due to complicated forms of those available features. And quite obviously, it is the simplicity to use feature that must play the lead role while developing mobile phones especially for the elderly usages.

The next most significant feature must include an easy to read screen with large buttons. Optionally, it is also a wonderful idea if the text size can be increased whenever required.

The companies which specialize on elderly use may focus on developing mobile phones with large and bright keypad with a fundamental user-friendly layout. When designing for elderly, it is always recommended to include emergency call feature. Some mobile phones may come with extra large loudspeakers compatible with hearing aid usage in addition to high volume of ring tone setting.

Contributing Companies

Especially in modern decades, there are several companies that are continuously contributing to this era and maintaining their goal to build a more sophisticated but easy-to-use mobile phones for the elderly populations.

An Australian company, called Emporia, has developed mobile phones especially designed for elderly populations. It features a highly sensitive emergency button with large text size in large display setting. The menu is easy to navigate with simple features and the buttons are large enough to press. The mobile phone also features high volume of ring tone along with loudspeaker which can be comfortably used by those elderly suffering from hearing impairment.

LG companies also display this feature in most of their phones designed for this purpose, especially the model LG LX350. Apart from that, Samsung Jitterbug OneTouch (A110) offers a unique, user-friendly layout which is found to be very effective for emergency usages. The three buttons are designed specifically to connect with an operator, emergency service as well as to pre-defined contact.
